RE: Great Basin National Park near Ely Nevada
Whispering Elms is ok...not fancy, but ok.
At the border of Nevada and Utah on hwy 50 is a small rv park with fuel and food, etc. A few years ago, it looked very nice and tidy.

RE: Boondocking near Yellowstone and Grand Teton
For Teton: there is a national forest campground at Slide Lake called Atherton. it isn't free, but it's not as expensive as the park campgrounds.
there are some national forest campgrounds outside of Yellowstone, but the only one close to a park entrance is just north of West Yellowstone. Can't recall the name, sorry.

RE: Fishing Bridge Campground to Livingston
Through the park is your only good option. anything else is WAY out of your way.

RE: from Grand Teton to Flaming Gorge
IMO, The route you've chosen will be a lot slower going. The better option is 191 down to Rock Springs, then on south on 191 to the Firefighters Memorial campground, a few miles south from Dutch John.

RE: Speaking of Bacon
I get Sam's Club bacon. 3 lb Black Label thick cut or 4 lb thick cut Wright.
I cut off the fatty end and keep for seasoning beans or green beans. Then bake the rest and freeze and just take out the number of pieces I want and zap them in the micro wave. The bacon fat goes into the fridge or freezer to use for frying eggs or potatoes or chicken.

RE: Thinking about going to 2024 Calgary Stampede
As stated, it's a lot of hype for what is just another rodeo. That said, you've also got something like a big state fair going on, and then there are the Rockies that are just 50 miles west and are a sight to see.
Get ur reservations early and get a nighttime one because I bet it will be as hot next year as it was this year.
We stayed in the foothills to the mountains, at Bow Provincial park and drove into the end of line for the train which took us down to the gates of the fair and rodeo park. free parking when we were there about 15 years ago.

RE: Pre-cooked packaged bacon
I like a couple pieces of bacon on toast for breakfast, but not every day. I precook my own bacon and freeze it because I like the thick cut. I also like to keep the fatty end off the bacon slab to use with green beans or frijoles.

RE: Where do you put your trash can?
I've always used a one gallon plastic bucket under my kitchen sink, and lined with a regular grocery bag. It doesn't hold much, so it gets emptied every day and sometime twice a day, fitting into almost any public waste can en route.
A few years ago, I started bagging plastic bottles, etc in a large kitchen bag I hang on a cabinet knob in a corner, and I do the same with a smaller bag for aluminum cans...those get taken out when they are full and/or when we see a recycle place.

seats on the shady side would give some relief from the heat. good luck getting tickets this late in the day.

RE: Yellowstone from Mt. Rushmore
16 and 14 over the Bighorns are both tough, but doable with your rig. Avoid 14A...it is not called the Oh MY God hill for nothing. LOL
16 has several campgrounds along the way and a dump station up near the top of the Pass.
There is a nice little rv park on the west end of Ten Sleep.
Out of Cody, there are several rv parks and federal campgrounds. Two of the fed Camps have electricity. Wapiti and Rex Hale.
I advise against entrance to Yellowstone via northeast gate. The approaches are stunningly beautiful, but you won't see much of it because you'll be looking at the road if you're pulling your rig.

RE: US 20 East to West Yellowstone
Henry's Lake State Park is about 15 miles south of West Yellowstone. It is lovely scenic area with great fishing. Near the entrance to the park, there is an RV park with a very good laundromat we have used several times. The state park is nicely set up with lots of spaces, some with full hookups.
